π‘οΈ Safety
Athens
Athens is generally safe for tourists. The main risks are pickpocketing on crowded metro lines and in tourist areas (Monastiraki, Plaka, Syntagma), bag snatching on motorbikes, and some petty scams. Exercise normal urban awareness, especially on public transport and at night around Omonia Square.
Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik is a very safe city for travelers. Violent crime is extremely rare, and the biggest risks are petty theft in crowded tourist areas and the physical hazards of slippery limestone streets and steep staircases.

π Getting Around
Athens
Athens has a modern metro system (built for the 2004 Olympics), extensive bus and trolleybus network, and a tram line to the coast. A single ticket costs β¬1.20 and is valid for 90 minutes on all modes. The 5-day tourist ticket (β¬9) is excellent value.
Walkability: Central Athens is very walkable, though hilly in places. The pedestrianized Dionyssiou Areopagitou walkway around the Acropolis is one of Europe's finest urban walks. Plaka, Monastiraki, and Syntagma are all within easy walking distance of each other. The heat in summer can make walking exhausting β carry water.
Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik is a compact city. The Old Town is entirely pedestrian and most visitor attractions are within walking distance. Libertas buses connect the Old Town to Lapad, Gruz port, and the suburbs. The city has no rail service.
Walkability: The Old Town is entirely car-free and easily walkable in 20-30 minutes from end to end. However, the city is built on steep terrain with many staircases. Getting from Ploce Gate or Pile Gate down to Lapad or Gruz requires a bus. Comfortable shoes are essential.
