π‘οΈ Safety
Athens
Athens is generally safe for tourists. The main risks are pickpocketing on crowded metro lines and in tourist areas (Monastiraki, Plaka, Syntagma), bag snatching on motorbikes, and some petty scams. Exercise normal urban awareness, especially on public transport and at night around Omonia Square.
Naples
Naples has a grittier reputation than other Italian tourist cities, and petty crime (pickpocketing, bag snatching, scooter theft) is a real concern. However, violent crime against tourists is rare, and most visitors have trouble-free experiences.

π Getting Around
Athens
Athens has a modern metro system (built for the 2004 Olympics), extensive bus and trolleybus network, and a tram line to the coast. A single ticket costs β¬1.20 and is valid for 90 minutes on all modes. The 5-day tourist ticket (β¬9) is excellent value.
Walkability: Central Athens is very walkable, though hilly in places. The pedestrianized Dionyssiou Areopagitou walkway around the Acropolis is one of Europe's finest urban walks. Plaka, Monastiraki, and Syntagma are all within easy walking distance of each other. The heat in summer can make walking exhausting β carry water.
Naples
Naples has a metro, funiculars, and buses, but the system is notoriously unreliable. The historic center is best explored on foot. Taxis and apps fill the gaps.
Walkability: Excellent in the historic center β Spaccanapoli, Via dei Tribunali, and the waterfront are all walkable. The Vomero hill requires a funicular. Be careful of scooters on narrow streets.
