πŸš‡ Getting Around

Barcelona

Barcelona has an excellent public transit network run by TMB (metro and buses) and FGC (regional rail). The T-Casual card offers 10 rides for €11.35 across metro, bus, tram, and FGC within Zone 1. The city is also very walkable and increasingly bike-friendly.

Walkability: The city center is very walkable and mostly flat, with the exception of hilly Montjuic and the areas near Park Guell. Las Ramblas, the Gothic Quarter, El Born, and the waterfront are best explored on foot. The Eixample grid makes navigation intuitive.

TMB Metro β€” €2.40 single; €11.35 for T-Casual (10 rides)
TMB Buses β€” €2.40 single; covered by T-Casual card
Cabify / Uber / Taxi β€” €8-15 for most trips within the city

Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki relies on buses as its main public transport β€” the long-awaited metro is still under construction. The city center is very walkable and taxis are affordable.

Walkability: Excellent in the flat center and along the waterfront. Ano Poli (upper town) requires climbing steep streets but is rewarding. The city is compact enough that most sights are accessible on foot.

OASTH Buses β€” €1.00 single, €4.50 day pass
Taxis β€” €3-10 for most city trips

The Verdict

Choose Barcelona if...

you want GaudΓ architecture, Mediterranean beaches, tapas culture, and legendary nightlife all in one city

Choose Thessaloniki if...

you want Greece's second city β€” Byzantine churches (UNESCO), White Tower, Ano Poli old town, bougatsa breakfasts, and the best food scene outside Athens
