Check travel advisories before visiting. Within the city, tourist areas are generally manageable, and Lebanese hospitality is extraordinary. Street crime targeting tourists is relatively uncommon.
Doha
Doha is among the safest cities in the world for tourists. Violent crime is extremely rare, theft is uncommon, and the city is well-policed. The main concerns for visitors are legal rather than physical — Qatar's laws around dress, public behaviour, alcohol, and personal conduct differ significantly from Western norms and carry real penalties.

Beirut has a Mediterranean climate with hot, humid summers and mild, rainy winters. The coastal location keeps temperatures moderate year-round. Nearby mountains offer skiing in winter and cool escapes in summer. Rain falls mainly between November and March.
Doha
Doha has a hot desert climate with a brutal summer season that makes most outdoor activity dangerous. From May through September, temperatures regularly exceed 40-45°C with high Gulf humidity. The shamal — a northwesterly wind that carries sand — can reduce visibility to near zero. The pleasant season runs October through April, with mild temperatures and almost no rain. This narrow window is when Doha truly comes alive.
🚇 Getting Around
Beirut
Beirut has no metro, tram, or formal public transit system. Transport is managed through taxis, ride-hailing apps, informal minibuses, and private cars. Traffic is notoriously chaotic. Uber and Bolt have transformed getting around, providing transparent pricing in a city where taxi meters are essentially nonexistent.
Walkability: Central Beirut is walkable but challenging — sidewalks are often broken, occupied by parked cars, or nonexistent. Hamra, Gemmayzeh, Mar Mikhael, and Downtown are manageable on foot. The Corniche is the best walking route. Walking between Hamra and Gemmayzeh takes about 30 minutes through the historic core.
Doha
Doha has good transport infrastructure by Gulf standards, anchored by a modern driverless metro system that opened for the 2022 World Cup. However, the city is spread out and designed around cars rather than pedestrians, and the summer heat makes walking impractical for most of the year. Most visitors combine the metro with taxis or ride-hailing apps.
Walkability: Limited. Doha's urban design prioritises vehicles over pedestrians, and the climate restricts walking to a few months per year. The Corniche promenade, Souq Waqif interior, and Pearl-Qatar marina are genuinely walkable during the cool season. Outside these areas, walking between attractions is not practical.
